Ahoy me hearties ... yo ho ho and a boatload of fun!

Today's Paris illustration sees an adorably regal Boston Terrier (inspired by my Instafriend Stinger @ohmydoggies) and his crew in the Jardin du Luxembourg preparing for some sailing fun.  Setting these quaint old boats into the large circular basin and urging them across the fountain-fed waters to the other side is a beautiful tradition for children visiting these glorious gardens.

Built in the 6th arrondissement of Paris in the early 1600s by Marie de'Medici (widow of King Henry IV of France) to complement her Florence-inspired palace, the Jardin du Luxembourg has a fascinating history of its own.  Fun fact: 20 statues of illustrious women and French queens surround the central green space of this calm and peaceful piece of Paris, making a beautiful celebration of women commissioned by Louis-Philippe way back in 1848.  I like to think it was an ode to girl power!  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Furry Friends Friday to you!

Black cats are lucky, and in this case the luck caught on with the serendipitous location of perfumer Annick Goutal's beautiful flagship store in Paris a leisurely half dozen or so doors down from our hotel on rue de Bellechasse in the 7th arrondissement.

As luck would also have it, Annick Goutal's newest release is called Chat Perché (Perched Cat).  So their window displays featuring fun faux felines perching and playing made for a perfect photo opportunity and illustration for me.

In chatting with the delightful Marie who assisted us so helpfully, she explained that this perfume "is our new invitation for grown ups and little ones to play and celebrate the countless sensations you were used to feel, mesmerised by every single detail of the nature."  I suspect our little black kitty cat here is hoping to be mesmerised by a pot of cat grass shortly.  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

Bonjour !

After a week in Paris and a week of acclimatising back to Brisbane life, I'm still dog-paddling in escargot-spirals and dreaming of croissants aux amandes, sipping champagne with our balcony view of the Eiffel Tower sparkling on the hour in the evening, sipping champagne and eating plump, glorious berries overlooking the Louvre (are we seeing a trend here?  Oui!}, carousel rides in les Jardins des Tuileries and le Jardin du Trocadéro ~ and so much more.

It was lots of fun cobbling together my semblance of French to chat with the charming and friendly Parisians we met, including a darling love in her 80s with the most magnificent hat and so adorable, I wanted to tuck her under my arm and bring her home!

I'm looking forward to settling back into my studio and hitting the drawing board to bring you lots of fresh illustrations to brighten your day.  Meanwhile, here's one I made before .... with the addition of our resident cheeky Bentley, the photobombing French bulldog.  (Please click here to enquire about commissioning a beautiful, unique custom portrait illustration of your own furry friends.)  Wishing you a beautiful weekend, wherever your dreams may take you.  Keep taking baby steps towards them.  They really can come true.  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!
