Fashionable Francophile Friday : Vintage Dior Blooming in Paris

28.2.15

Say Bonjour to your DIY project for the weekend Shell Sherree-style.  If you have a satin nightgown and a cornucopia of blowsy blooms from the markets, just close your eyes, wave some pixie dust et voilà, this vintage Dior creation can be yours.  The view of the Eiffel Tower might take a little more fabrication than upcycling some wire coat hangers but keep waving that pixie dust and who knows ~ anything is possible here.  The perfect match for champagne silk satin is champagne and there's a gold tray of macarons au caramel fleur de sel with rose-petal ganache floating around somewhere.  And on that note ...

Happy Fashionable Francophile Friday to you !

Pawsing on the Oscars Red Carpet : Felicity Jones and the Silver Sheen

23.2.15

Ella the Catwalk Kitty reporting from the red carpet at the 2015 Academy Awards.  Forgive the delay but there was a minor incident with security that required a bath and restoration of feline dignity.

Felicity Jones was the first to catch our eye, a shimmery vision in a beautifully feminine Alexander McQueen duchesse satin gown and vintage Van Cleef & Arpels jewels and clutch.  While I can't help wishing there was a hint of a slightly-undone top-knot peeking over her head for a touch of counterpoint with the flowered and beaded bodice, her smooth tresses were an elegant choice and likely the wiser one ~ so I restrained my pen and brush from embellishing the truth on this occasion.

And now, the champagne corks are still sighing, so shall we slip into the Governors Ball for some of Wolfgang Puck's 'comfort-food-meets-pure-decadence-bites' and trademark pizzas?  Our gowns come with built-in spontaneous drycleaning.  And on that note ...

Happy Oscars 2015 to you !

Fashionable Friday : From Russia with Love

When you live in a locale where snow would be a most beautiful novelty, the daydream of gamboling around with a bunch of fluffy Samoyeds glistens and sparkles in magical territory.  And it's abundantly worthy of a lavish full-skirted gown to safely obscure thermal undies and matching wool-lined gumboots.

Actually, I have no idea if my illustration's gorgeous inspiration via Ester Abner haute couture was shot in Russia ~ my cyrillic is a little rusty.  But Russia works for me. Should we channel our Anna Kareninas this weekend? Too much drama?  Let's pull up some logs and faux fur rugs, and discuss over vodka martinis {aka kangaroo cocktails ~ I kid you not!}  We can escalate to vodka shots as the hypothermia threatens to kick in.  And on that note ...

Fashionable Fairytale Friday: Behold Carefully, the Glass Slipper

14.2.15

Happy Valentine's Day or thereabouts !  I'm all for anything that celebrates love in general, along with the romantic kind.  By happystance, from cali {a loyal regular at our comments parties}, asked for my take on Harrods' exclusive line of Cinderella-inspired designs by nine shoe designers, from Jimmy Choo to Charlotte Olympia to Salvatore Ferragamo.  How could I resist?  And coincidentally, it fits Valentine's Day's foot rather nicely, too ~ so it turns out this post does have a romantic bent after all.

Alors, the real-life shoe designers have prudently taken the glass notion philosophically rather than literally, given their shoes aren't being conjured up by those of the fairy godmother persuasion.  As I have no such restrictions, the glass slippers I've designed for Cinderella are made of breathable Comfort Glass ~ classic with a twist.

Our Cinderella is inspired by Jennifer Lawrence and her beautiful Dior-clad tumble up the Oscar stairs in 2013.  Guess who leapt to his chivalrous feet along with her co-star Bradley Cooper?  Our Hugh, but of course.  The universe works in mysterious ways ~ though if she was wearing one of my glass slippers, it would have explained everything. And on that note ...

Happy Fashionable Fairytale Friday to you !

Fashionable Friday: Flowing Felines in Milan

6.2.15

{Flowing Felines in Milan : ink pen, pencil and watercolour fashion illustration © Shell-Sherree}

Hang onto your magical purple-velvet-tufted-and-gimped flying love seat ~ we're in Milan this weekend for the first time ever Chez Shell !

Today's illustration with its nebulous nod to the Duomo cathedral is inspired by Alberta Ferretti, though as per usual, I've tailored the gown colour to suit myself.  {It's all about me, after all.}  Nothing against sea-green but it rhymes with pea-green and we don't need to confuse things by dreaming up the owl and the pussycat right now when clearly, their romantic boat trip has Buckley's and none of ending up here.  Any thoughts on how best to amuse ourselves?  The customary pastries and champagne are on the menu ~ and we'd fit in nicely for a night at La Scala.  Let's see what other mischief we can get up to ~ and on that note ...

Happy Fashionable Friday to you !
