Fashionable Fairytale Friday: Into the Forest with Van Cleef & Arpels

{Into the Forest in Aqua and Bijoux : ink pen and watercolour fashion illustration © Shell-Sherree}

Today's illustration is inspired by the Van Cleef & Arpels collection inspired by a French fairtytale named Peau d'Âne {Donkey Skin}.  As fairytales go, this one peaks on the Weird-o-Meter !

But as for the jewellery, the Van Cleef & Arpels bijoux tell a spectacularly pretty story.  Our damsel is luxuriating on upholstered seating most graciously provided by the forest.  {Such a thoughtful forest!} And she's not wearing a donkey skin, for which I'm sure you're as grateful as I am.  This particular scene, to be specific, was inspired by a Financial Times spread including the Robe Couleur du Temps necklace, so we have them to thank for her choice of attire. Phew!  And on that note ...

Happy Fashionable Friday Fairytale to you !

  1. It is here that I learn the most fundamental truths, Shell; I realise just now, looking at that lovely chair, that my own all have inexcusably straight backs.

    1. Ah. The sloped back is essential to swooning, dear Mise. I look forward to hearing how your life has transformed once you've made the change.

  2. I love this bejeweled fantasy, Shell! The only thing that could make it any better would be for our Hugh to give me that Promesse d'Amour ring (and then keep his promise). Un très bon weekend to you, ma belle!

  3. It's a lovely rendering. Lilac and turquoise are a nice pairing. Wish I had enough hair to wear it in the style of Marie Antoinette. Such as your swan necked model. And as long as I could keep it (my head) ;)

    Ditto on the weirdo meter -- agree

  4. Wonderful links! I've never heard the Donkeyskin story before. I love the Dore etchings that go with it. And I spent a good deal of time watching that lovely video about jewels. Whew!
