Francophile Friday: Stripe Me Lucky

Illustration by Shell-Sherree: pigment ink pen & watercolour

If we ever need to break a zebra out of jail, here's our perfect device for smuggling in the nail file: clever use of a colourless, transparent box to lull the wardens into a false sense of security, rendering them completely oblivious to the miniature lock-picking tools contained within the deceptively sweet and innocent macarons inside.  Those zebras are crafty.  Here's something casual to wear so we don't draw attention to ourselves.  If it's 'bring your own chair' day, never fear ~ we won't be caught off guard.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

Francophile Friday: Pampered Pug

Illustration of  Pampered Pug and Daybed by Shell-Sherree: ink & watercolour

I see a lazy weekend ahead.  Draw the drapes on the daybed if the light becomes too taxing.  Bolster your resolve to do nothing ~ as beautifully as possible.  Today's illustration is for those who feel the status quo around here is tipped in the feline direction.  Marie-Antoinette's penchant for pugs helps me balance the equation without putting a finger on the scale {inspired by this scene from Sofia Coppola's movie of the same name}.  Tradition dictates we should eat cake.  But fear not, jumping through dress hoops is a thing of the past when it comes to our weekend wardrobe.  And on that note...

Francophile Friday: Take a Vantage of le Métro

Illustration of  Paris Métro Notre-Dame des Champs by Shell-Sherree: ink & watercolour

Parisian cat burglars have taken one look at today's illustration and rubbed their paws with glee.  A drainpipe conveniently located between two windows and right next to a Métro stop?  It's like taking cheese from a mouse but without the indigestion!  A decoy would be handy, however, and that's where we can help ~ let's make like femme fatales and distract the passers-by.  Asking for help with our luggage is the oldest trick in the book so we might as well use it.  In return, we can enjoy our share of the spoils.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

Thanks to dear Genie of Paris and Beyond for her very lovely inspiration for today's illustration.  Merci, ma chère!

Francophile Friday: Let's Scoot

Kitty Cat Fashionably Scootering in Paris: Illustration by Shell-Sherree

Caution: do not try this at home, s'il vous plaît!  Our damsel and her kitty are scootering along these Parisian cobblestones to attend to a pastry emergency of the gravest kind: the quest for a colour-coordinated macaron.  Pink would be too easy, so I suspect the flavour choice will be blueberry, blueberry or blueberry.  A quaint old franc for your thoughts?  On arrival, we shall collapse onto our special Camouflage Chaise {designed to allow us to eat in peace and drop crumbs discreetly} then kick off our shoes while waiting for our colour-coordinated footrub to dry off and arrive.  All in good time... good things should never be rushed.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

My best wishes to weary east coasters in the US, hit with snowstorms and more blackouts just as some were starting to recover from Sandy.  You'll find good information here with regards to helping animal shelters ~ they will be stretched past their limits, so let's do all we can to give them relief.

Francophile Friday: Paris Fillies & Flemington

Illustration of  Paris Carousel Pony by Shell-Sherree: ink & watercolour

Hot on the heels of my desire a couple of posts ago to follow a train of thought, this time I'm forward planning.  Nobody panic ~ I'm sure both are passing fads.  The trouble with forward planning is I'm so far ahead of today's subject that my blog post will be past the winning post long before 'the race that stops the nation' even starts.  Our filly is not giving the rest of the field in the Melbourne Cup a sporting chance.  That said, given her handicap ~ she lives in Paris and she's tied to a carousel ~ she needs a head start, so I make no apologies.  {I have not forgotten our customary kitty mascot but I'll send a trio of Shell-Sherree postcards to the first commenter to spot her!}

For 3,200 metres and just over three minutes on the first Tuesday in November at the Flemington race track, most of Australia holds its breath and cheers {don't ask me how we do both simultaneously.  It's a gift...} as 24 horses and riders compete for a particularly fond place in the hearts of our nation.  Hats and fascinators are the order of the day, with yellow roses in lapels for tradition.  In keeping with the exuberant spirit of the Cup, I'll leave the wardrobe choices to you, and when you're ready, we can watch in comfort, tickle our noses and snack in style.  And on that note...

Happy Flemingtonish-Francophile Friday to you!

My heart goes out to all those affected by Sandy.  There's a lot of good information here with regards to helping animal shelters in dire need.  Let's help in whatever shape or form we can.
