Francophile Friday: Early Storm for the Bastille

pigment ink pen & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm]

Aside from Bastille Day arriving here before most other places in the world, thanks to the wonder known as the earth spinning on its axis, Francophile Friday happens to coincide with this auspicious excuse for overindulgence in all things baguette, macaron and éclair ~ with the exception of an inconveniently placed 24 hours.  Quel dommage.  So our kitty and her carousel-escapee friend have decided to secure their place at the head of the traditional military parade on the Champs-Élysées by arriving early.  The balloons could be perceived as a somewhat frivolous touch by the French Republican Guard, but a cat on a horse should distract their attention long enough to get away with it.  We're in for a long wait, and might need to ride our duo out of there, so I've chosen attire built for both comfort and speed and secured our snacks.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday and early Bastille Day to you!

  1. I see the gist of a bestselling children's book, beautifully illustrated by yourself, in this post. The series (your agent will be clamouring for more) could be called 'Allons á la France, Mes Enfants!'. Please put me down in advance to purchase three signed copies.

  2. Vive la France! I for one will cheer when I see kitty and her carousel horse march by. The frivolity of the balloons is tempered by the serious sentiments. Surely the French Republican Guard can appreciate that.

Oh, and I'm right behind Mise in wanting those three signed copies. A children's book is an excellent idea, Shell! Then you can take a book tour around the world and meet all your fans.

  4. Great idea and title, Mise! Shell could do a whole series of illustrated story/guide books. All countries deserve the Shell treatment!

  6. I'm with Mise and from Cali on the illustrated story/guidebooks. Tres bien!
I think a cat on a horse would be the perfect starters for the parade. We'll cheer from the sidelines, waving our baguettes.

  7. Ah, oui, dear Mise... an idea has indeed been percolating on a slow brew. Bless you, my sweet, and you know those autographed copies would give me the greatest of pleasure to send should such an event come to pass.

Susan ~ meeting all of you, including your little furkids, would be beyond words for me. But I could try to draw it!

    Thanks, PA! My pleasure, indeed.

Cali ~ it's a very fetching title, isn't it! Wonderful ideas, all of them. I need to become a traveller - if I could pack Ella and take her with me, that would make the choice so much easier!

Cafe ~ hahaha! So predictable... but endearing.

Thank you, Ms M. Maybe I need to sequester myself with a few months supply of macarons and lattes. In the meantime, though, we will cheer and wave!

  8. Aside from other delights, I now know cats prefer a park seat saddle.

  11. Hiker ~ so that's what it's called. Because one parks one's seat on it?

Petrea ~ I tried finding skinnier macarons but to no avail.

    Thanks, Kellie ~ you too!

  14. Why did I think today was Friday?

  15. Probably because it was my Friday when you thought it was Friday. so it really was Friday. You're just ahead of your times, hiker.

  17. Dear V, how blessed we are that Ella and Meeps are both black and live on the other side of the world from each other ~ I can swell both their chests with pride simultaneously and neither is any the wiser. ;) {We just can't let them start Skyping each other or I'm in trouble.}
