Fashionable Friday: The White Shed

pigment ink & watercolour illustration by ShellSherree for The White Shed

If I had a shed in my yard, there's a good chance I'd paint it white.  Or aqua... lilac... pale pink ~ choose a pastel and add it to the list. One of the things I love about soft, dusty, lolly colours is that they play nicely with a favourite classic combo: black and white.  Whichever pastel I settled on, my shed might have an awning like this, to add an air of jaunty distinction.

When commissioned by Letitia to illustrate a shop front representative of The White Shed, her elegant online homewares and design store, I was rather delighted {as you can well imagine} to find her modern country style furniture and accessories have more than a hint of French flavour.  How fitting!  Double the drawing pleasure for me.  Letitia has been a joy to work with, and her clients must be more than a little in love with her.  She has a lovely blog too, so feel free to pop on over and say Hello.  You can wear this and be a chameleon.  {We're friends, let me share my cold snap with you.}  Then we can all meet up to pat colour co-ordinated cats and nibble delicately on colour co-ordinated treats.  And on that note...

Happy Fashionable Friday to you!

  2. If I had an online business, I'd hire you in a New York minute to work your magic and bring it to life.
I'll have to pass on the outfit, though I'll gladly share your cold snap (we're heading to 99°F (37°C here today). Thanks for making my Friday yet again, ma chère!

  3. Tired after a long day, but now smile at the writings and illustrations of Shell Sherree. If I had a little shop, I'd imagine it to be just like that. Letitia is one smart cookie for commissioning you.

  7. I love black and white, and you've taken it further than it ordinarily goes--into the extraordinary. You've softened it and made it feminine. And added kitties.

  11. Mise ~ Letitia gave me a great brief to work with ~ this one almost drew itself.

Alexa ~ I'd say Yes in a Brisbane second if you asked. I hope it cools down for you soon.

Thanks, dear Debs! Sorry you had a long, tiring day. I hope your weekend has been a restorative one...

Hiker ~ 'lolly' is one of those words I'm glad we use here.

Thank you, The Cape Club. It's been nice to thaw a little for the past couple of days, hasn't it ~ before we batten down the hatches for another spell!

Kellie ~ the awning is very much your style, isn't it. Happy week to you.

Thanks, Petrea, Ms M and Favourite Vintage Finds. Those kitties melt me!

Vicki ~ I'm glad you love it. It's been a good weekend, thank you. And I hope likewise for you...

  14. Just when you think nothing could be cuter than color-coordinated kitties, some color-coordinated French bull dogs appear! I wish the dirty yellow shed in my backyard was as pretty as your white shed, Shell. Perhaps I should hire you to paint it.

  15. It's a pleasure, Letitia ~ you gave me a great brief to work with!

Susan ~ I knew you'd love all of those sweeties! Say, do you mean paint your shed as in roll up my sleeves and get out the sandpaper, or paint it as in sit delicately dabbling into my pan of watercolours. ;)

    1. I would love it if you could roll up your sleeves, get out the sandpaper and actually paint my shed (I'm sure you would make it a thing of beauty), but I like you too much to put you through that.

    2. Someday when I visit, Susan, if your shed still needs it, we'll have a working bee!

  16. Your right about playing pastels up against black and white. And I think you would be the perfect painter for Susan's shed. I have a makeshift version at the bottom of my hill. Basically tent armature with brown plastic covering it. I have visions of faking some kink of tiki or bamboo camarflauge <- (french word I can't spell)

  17. Black and white: a classic and classy combo! (And I love your idea of pairing B&W with a pastel.) The White Shed looks like a wonderful place to shop, and your great illustration is the perfect welcome for the site.

  19. Pasadena Adjacent ~ I feel somewhat shedless with all this shed talk. You'd have a lot of fun tricking up yours!

    Katie ~ I suspect licorice allsorts have something to do with my thinking. {It often comes back to attractively coloured sweet things.}

Thanks, Cali! I feel a huge sense of achievement when I wrap up these kinds of jobs.
