Francophile Friday: Merry Macarons to You

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] BROWSE PRINTS
A valiant effort, though I haven't quite covered the partridge, turtle doves, calling birds and I don't think these little feathered friends would pass for French hens, either.  But I have a feeling you'll excuse me for trading five golden rings for this tower of raspberry macarons {if you close your eyes and make a wish, yours will turn into whatever flavour you fancy}.  Thank you, dear Virginia of Paris Through My Lens, for the lavish inspiration provided by you and Printemps in Paris.  I've decided to call this style Bacchanalian-chinoiserie.  Could we be daring enough to wear this while we indulge?  And when the last crumb has gone, we can visit animal refuges to make donations and give out cuddles.  {To give just by clicking your mouse, no money required, please pop over here. Often.}

Wishing you a Christmas filled with love and laughter with those who make your heart sing and your spirit tap dance.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

  1. You find the best garments! I would be thrilled to spend Christmas wearing that suit, sitting on a matching sofa, surrounded by a wallpaper depicting your finest creations.

(Indeed, have you ever considered designing wallpaper - the light daintiness of your subject matter would be so ideally suited to airy, sunlit, high-ceilinged rooms.)

One accidental swing of that magnificent chandelier and the tree will topple - every woman for herself, what you catch as it falls over you get to eat.

Have a delightful Bacchanalian-chinoiserie Christmas, Shell, and may 2012 bring the world closer to your beautiful vision of it.

  2. Mise, you're a tough act to follow. Isn't she a wonderful writer? Have you been to her blog, everyone?

Shell, I don't care what flavor the macarons are, as you draw them they are delectable. I love the fashions and foods and fun you create, whenever you create it. And I love Mise's idea of wallpaper! Perfect for a sunroom or sitting room, not to mention a boudoir.

  5. A Bacchanalian-chinoiserie Christmas! Sounds wonderful - and I for one would definitely trade all the birds and the rings for a tower of macarons. Love this drawing - all the little details. Have a very merry sunshine-filled Christmas.

  6. Dear Mise ~ I have added wallpaper designer to my flights of fancy. If I'm not careful, you will have me needing a larger hat size. Thank you ~ I am touched.

Petrea ~ Mise has a gift, doesn't she. As do you. Without all of you to create things for, my day would be less pastel.

Cali ~ violet macarons for Christmas is a very nice wish to have! ;)

Thank you, Hiker ~ here's to those who are no longer visible to the eye but are in our hearts forever.

Amanda ~ I'm glad you like it! Thank you ~ wishing you peace and all things shiny and bright.

  7. I'm traveling and was in a place with no Internet for the past few days so I've been out of the loop. What a nice treat to check in and see your bright and joyful illo. Love the Christmas makeover your banner got, too!

Wishing you a holiday full of whimsy and a new year that's better than your dreams.

  8. Fabulous! Virginia will be beyond chuffed. I love the way you've magically transformed pistache into framboise. And not to make you pistachio-green with envy, I am munching on a framboise Ladurée macaron right now—a Christmas gift from my work colleague. So who needs turtle doves and calling birds when Shell provides macarons? Pas moi! Hope you have a wonderful holiday, ma chère --

  9. Marvelous! Such a festive and elegant ileo. I can almost hear music in the background, perhaps harp or flute, perhaps some small bells. And the chinoiserie is gorgeous!

Very merry holidays to you, too, Shell!

  11. So many wonderful things in one place! And I'd take the tower of macarons over 5 golden rings any day. Thanks for this lovely holiday illustration, and all your other fabulous one throughout the year. Have a delightful Christmas; hope yours is filled with sweet treats of all sorts as well!

  12. Pop Culture Nerd ~ I'm happy to hear you're travelling, and having some rest from the internet as well {even if it's an unwanted sabbatical}. Here's to happy dances...

Alexa ~ oh, I love the synchronicity. How poetic! What a thoughtful gift ~ your colleague clearly knows you well. Bisous.

A fine choice of musical accompaniment, Ms M. Sounds just the ticket. My best to you...

Cafe ~ heh, nicely done. You too, puppy dog.

Why am I not surprised, Katie! ;) Wishing you a fun, fabulous and groovy Christmas.

  19. Your illo is a feast for the eyes and the imagination. I can almost taste those macarons melting in my mouth. Mmmm... I'll have to have another bing cherry chocolate, a sad substitute but the closest thing to a raspberry macaron in the house. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, dear Shell!

  20. Susan ~ I don't know what bing cherry chocolate is, but it sounds pretty tasty! We have something called Cherry Ripe here ~ a rather flat mixture of cherries and coconut encased in dark chocolate to make a bar. Quite partial to a very occasional one! I hope you and the furry family are having a romping delight of a festive season.
