Venerdi in Venice: Shutters & Flowers

ink & watercolour illustration, 8.75" x 7" [22.5 x 18cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

Last Friday, we soaked up the atmosphere of flowers and shutters in Paris, then made ourselves at home for the weekend.  And the weekend became rather extended.  I'm still trying to retrieve lampshades from the heads of some of our guests {not mentioning names ~ sometimes discretion really is the better part of valor}.  To expedite our departure, it seemed prudent to simply exchange one royal flush of flowers and shutters for another... but with a change of city to keep us on our toes.   Thank you to dear Catherine Hédouin via sweet Danielle's VenetiaMicio for the beautiful Venice inspiration.   I'll continue to work on the lampshade removal while you open those shutters more widely and embrace the canal view.  And on that note...

Happy Venerdi in Venice to you!

  1. For once I'm first to the party - oh, and here's my lampshade back (blushing). Ahh to relax in Venice after the long day I've had. Bliss. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to a bubble bath. Which way is the bathroom?

  2. I'd give anything, including my lampshade, to be inside that picture today.

  5. You've made me a very happy woman, my dear Shell—trading my favorite city for my other favorite city. I'll be there in time to enjoy a spritz a l'Aperol with all of you (and I'll be dressed in Repetto from lampshade-adorned head to my en-pointe toes)!

  8. If I see any unattended lampshade laying about I'll send them your way ;)
In the meantime, I think I'll join kitty on this wonderful balcony. Do you think Hugh would bring some champagne?

  9. Debs ~ follow the terrazzo-floored hallway, turn left at the second venetian mirror. There's an array from which to choose, though I highly recommend the bergamot, spicy carnation and tonka bean blend...

Hiker ~ the lampshade is all you need to give. *Plunk* Entrez...

    Cocktails to the left, Margaret.

Cafe ~ Francophile Friday is hot air ballooning this week, but next week ~ we'll see...

Alexa ~ I hear lampshades are the It accessory this season anyway, and ballets are the perfect accompaniment.

dkshopgirl ~ so that wasn't you in the salon, hand-stamping and trimming one of the cushions with muslin? I could have sworn...

Thanks, dear Virginia! Cocktails to the left...

Ms M ~ he's just autographing some cases of iced tea for the gondolier, then he'll be right up...

  10. Lampshades from head - oh my! Too much champagne?
And the view from the shutters is quite exquisite. The shutters themselves are very nice.

  12. There is no way I am EVER going to allow ANYONE to remove my exquisite handpainted Shell Sherree lampshade from my head. I hate to bring any aggression to the party, but it had to be said firmly.

  13. Breathtaking. We've had a greyish week here so this puts me right in a spring-y mood.

And I don't mind admitting I need help with the lampshade removal, though it's not stuck on my head.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend, Shell!

  14. Thanks, Indie.Tea ~ I'd be happy to live with those shutters.

Yvonne ~ I always know you're smiling when we land in Venice...

Mise ~ well, when you put it in that light ~ please do retain your shade, by all means. I'll fetch you a multi-pastel-striped straw to facilitate your rehydration.

PopCultureNerd ~ ok, this calls for a different handling technique. Better wait until Hugh arrives.

  15. I have a feeling those lampshades are just being passed around the room. Shell, you really know how to throw a party (and create the sweetest illos): no one wants to leave!

  16. (pant pant) Sorry I'm late. Shell, I hope you'll understand if I throw a teensy Mise-y fit. I've been receiving compliments on my lampshade and am loath to return it. Mise will know exactly what I mean.

Mind if I put my feet up? I can't walk in these toe shoes anymore.

  17. Thanks, dear Susan! It's easy to throw a great party with a guest list such as ours...

Petrea ~ please do sit down. Excellent timing, as the foot rub queue has only just subsided. By the way, sketches for the new autumn line of lamp shades are underway...

  18. It took me some time to leave Paris behind and catch up with you here in Venice. The balcony's divine and kitty looks fine, now please pass me a glass of prosecco!

  19. I can understand the temptation to dilly dally in Paris, Cali. But I'm so glad you made it. Here's your prosecco! Clink.

  21. I too am very late to the party, but at least I'm now enjoying this fabulous balcony in Venice! Once again your details are amazing, especially the windows. I think I'll hang out here for a while. Pass the lampshade!

  22. Danielle ~ merci, ma chère! I hope you had a wonderful time in Venice. Bisous...

Katie ~ I took the liberty of adding a small mosaic trim onto the bottom of your lampshade...

Merci, grazie, thank you for joining our conversation lounge. Your smile lights up the room. Even more beautifully than our crystal chandelier. x
