Francophile Friday: Do You Take This Macaron...

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS
Once in a while, it's nice to have a fairytale. Anything uplifting and cheering for the spirit is welcome, even more so this year than others in recent recollection.  William and Kate are a beautiful couple and I wish them every happiness and more.  I have to confess, I'll be watching the Royal Wedding on delay due to a previous engagement.  {No, not that kind of engagement.}  But I'm looking forward to being assailed by all kinds of eye candy, not the least: the wedding cake.  Is there any chance a tower of macarons was on their short list?  It's kind of fun to imagine so.  Merci, dear Virginia for today's inspiration.  Somehow, I suspect it would be the celebratory pastry extravaganza of choice for many of those pressing your noses up against this Paris shop window today.  So please, don't forget to take your bonbonniere before you leave.  There's a flavour to suit everyone.  And on that note...

Happy Royal Francophile Friday to you!

  1. 'Uplifting and cheering for the spirit' describes your blog so exactly Shell that you should get in touch with all the major channnels about televising it when the happy wedding hoohaa has died down. And yes please, I'll have a macaron. Two.

  3. Divine! You know that I am crazy for macarons... When I was in Paris looking for new flavors, I saw the towers that you could buy to assemble with macarons as in your painting. I was tempted....

    Bon weekend!

  4. Thanks, dear Mise ~ you are very kind! I'll slip an extra few macarons into your bonbonniere...

    Cali ~ *clink* Such a perfect occasion for champagne and macarons. {Come to think of it, every day could provide an excuse for such an occasion.}

Genie ~ having heard from Virginia what a superb macaron baker you are, I suspect you could whip up a magnificent tower in record time!

  5. What's a fairytale without a tower of macarons?! This is such a delightful and delicious drawing! If I ever get invited to an event where hats are required, I'm definitely going to wear one covered in faux macarons. (Or maybe real ones; that would sure make me popular!)

  8. I like a fairy tale now and then, too. Especially on Fridays.

  9. Oh, this drawing is delightful, ma chere! I think if the newly minted Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had chosen a tower of macarons, it would have been a VERY high one! (And the über-talented Pierre Hermé probably would have created it.)

  10. Katie ~ I'd love within munching distance of a hat like that.

Thanks, dear Lily! I hope you're having a beautiful weekend.

The very least I could do, Favourite Vintage Finds.

Always a pleasure to help the fairytales along for you, Petrea.

Alexa ~ newly minted. Heh! I'll bet the ladder to access said tower would be gilded.

  11. I missed the Royal Wedding Cake but I'm certain it could not have been as enticing as this tower of macarons. What a delightful confection! I can see why you were inspired by Virginia's vivid original. It looks scrumptious too. Bon week-end, Shell!

  13. Susan ~ an all-white tower with some white icing flowers filling in the gaps could have been elegant. Bon weekend to you and your fur-kids!

    Hiker ~ I knew that.

  15. Wonderful! I adore the title of this post and of course the illustration - as always, talented Sherree. They had two cakes. One beautifully decorated with a trillion flowers and I 'think' 8 tiers and then William's favorite cake made of rich tea biscuits and dark chocolate. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1370364/Prince-William-asks-special-wedding-cake-Rich-Tea-biscuits-dark-chocolate.html

No macaroons tho. Oh but wasn't it just wonderful. I love to see people in love and they are and were and hopefully always will be.
