Venerdi in Venice: In the Pink

It's been a while since our last visit to Venice.  And when I started gazing at my inspiration folders, the sight of all that water was too much too soon, given the recent floods.  So I compromised and chose this lovely scene with just a hint of water lapping at the bottom of it.  {Merci, Danielle, for the beautiful inspiration!} The crumbling pink facade has my mind drifting somewhat nostalgically to sweetheart lollies.  I believe someone tall, dark and handsome {possibly named Hugh ~ such a nice name} is upstairs waiting for us, with a 2 feet tall glass apothecary jar full of them.  Who dibbs Kiss Me?  And on that note...

Happy Venerdi in Venice to you!

Thank you also to Danielle for giving me this Sunshine Award.  I'm chuffed!   As you give me so much sunshine with your comments and/or blogs, I'd like to bestow it on all of you.  If you haven't yet visited the sites of your fellow commenters here, now would be a lovely time to drop in on them.  Talent, inspiration and wit in leaps and bounds. You're all grand.

  1. I call dibs! (And I don't yet know what a sweetheart lolly is—but I'm going back to find out, for sure). Let's just say that if Venice, lollies, and (oh, most especially) Hugh are involved, I'm SO in!

  2. Oh, Shell—great linkage!. Now I know: What you call sweetheart lollies, we call candy hearts. I'd like to get some that are personalized to say "I "heart" Hugh. I also "heart" this charming illo!nockinar

  3. Such a lovely scene! Sweetheart lollies and Hugh are the perfect way to start the weekend. And congrats on the Sunshine Award! :)

  4. Love the illo and the links, Shell! And Danielle is a sweetheart!

If I have it correctly, the interviewer said to Hugh, "You look good. I mean, some people would say you look good." She said it almost deadpan. Sort of.

  5. La vie en rose in Venice! Love it! And hello kitty! So glad I enlarged this. Speaking of which, Huge, I mean, Hugh is a nice name and such a lovely looking chap.

  6. Adorable! And kitty looks very contented soaking up the sun from her hidden perch. I wonder if candy maker Necco will be updating their hearts this year to say things like "text me". I like the slightly dated words though. Great interview with Hugh - what a sweetheart!

  8. Venice is so pretty in pink! You've sent me on a nostalgia trip, Shell, reading about those Sweetheart candies. (Katie, there are "Fax me" and "E-mail me" hearts!)

Hugh's a hottie! And that interview was hilarious: "Did you have any qualms about running naked into the barn?" Ha! Now I want to see the movie.

  9. Shortest people go first in line for Hugh, right? I win! Don't worry--I'll be gentle so he'll have enough energy for everyone.

I'm with altadenahiker. You're an inspiration, Shell.

  10. Alexa ~ I've filtered all the Kiss Me lollies out of the jar and left them on your pillow, so you're good to go!

    Thanks, Ms M ~ here's to a sweet weekend!

Petrea ~ heh, she did say that. And I did laugh.

Cali ~ I'm glad you enlarged it. The picture. ;) Kitty's a bit weensy to spy at a distance...

Katie ~ I suspect the originals would make my heart race faster than more current expressions would. But maybe it all depends on who's giving them out. ;)

Thank you, Hiker. You Are Sweet.

Susan ~ hahaha! The more he joked about it, the more images I had bobbing around in my head. All good ones.

Thanks, PCN! And I'm sorry, but I'd already sifted through the lollies for Alexa {with gloves on, of course} but we can all arm wrestle for second spot. Come to think of it, Hugh might enjoy that.

  11. I missed Kitty when I first looked. But now I see how pleased she looks in her window seat.

  13. Yeah, that interviewer was playing it pretty cool, "You look good...some people--not me, of course being the serious entertainment journalist that I would--would say you look good."

  14. I've contacted the manufacturers to add MEEP! to the sweetheart messages in your honour. It's what Hugh would have wanted.

  15. Ms M ~ she's hiding from the pigeon quite nicely.

    Thanks, Kellie ~ you too!

Margaret ~ and she tried so hard...

Mise ~ I feel you should receive the first batch of them in honour of such a fine idea!

  16. Yay! Back in Venice again. What a gorgeous painting! And, your wit and charm never fail to give me succor!! And Sweetheart lollies, too.

Hey, you ladies can have Hugh, hunk though he is. I hear that Johnny (you know the one .. swashbuckling fellow) has bought a wee palazzo in Venice. My kind of guy. Now, where did I leave my stalking hat?

On a serious note (although I am serious about Johnny), that darned Cyclone Yasi is getting closer and closer. Even little Atherton has now appeared on the tracking map.

  17. Yvonne ~ oh heck!!! Stay safe and I'm thinking of you. I keep praying it will do an about face and miraculously peter out harmlessly at sea. Enough is enough already.

  18. For those who haven't heard, a severe cyclone warning is in place for a long stretch of the north Queensland coast and inland. Cyclone Yasi is continuing to intensify as it approaches and is expected to bring both extreme winds and massive rainfall. Looks like our fair state is in for more battering, this time up north. Please take care.

  19. Shell, I am monitoring Yasi just as I watch the Gulf of Mexico hurricanes, hoping that your countrymen and you are safely ensconced away from the water and winds.

You have had more than anyone should have to bear. Wishing safety for Yvonne and all others that we know by name, too!

    Bisous,
    Genie

  20. Maybe it's Paris withdrawal , but that looks like deux baguettes à moi! :)

  21. Genie ~ I think the nation collectively held its breath all night with fear for everyone up there. {Brisbane is a very safe distance from the typical cyclone zone.} The power could be out where Yvonne lives but as soon as I've been able to touch base with her, I'll post a comment back here.

Virginia ~ I had to think for a moment! Now that you say it... :)

  22. Regular commenters know dear Yvonne, who lives up in north Queensland. The cyclone did pass over her area, but it has not been reported as an area of very severe impact. That could be a relative thing!! The power is out there and could take time to be restored. I'm hoping she'll put a message over on her blog when she's able to ~ here's the link. Huge hugs and thinking of you, Yvonne!

  23. I was relieved to hear there were no deaths. I'm sure there's plenty of damage, though.

  24. Petrea, sadly the first has been officially reported, with the discovery of a young man who was asphixiated from running a generator in the unventilated room he was sheltering in. Of all the things. Hopefully there will be no more. The damage to vegetation and structures has been appalling.

  25. Hooray, I've heard from Yvonne and she's fine! She'll report with more elaboration via her blog after a good night's sleep {I'm quoting her!}

  26. I'm so sorry to hear it, Shell. I hope for no more.
