Francophile Friday: Rue de Paris de Brisbane

Bonjour!  For today's Francophile Friday, let's go for a walk along Park Road, Milton, here in Brisbane, where there's a miniature Eiffel Tower that is quite sacrilegious for purists, but I'm glad it's there nonetheless.  It's fun to say to a friend, "Let's meet under the Eiffel Tower."  Of course, it would be a whole different level of fun to say to a friend, "Let's meet under the Eiffel Tower," and be talking of the real one.  But in lieu of that ~ we shall make do.  Just a brief stroll from our meeting place, we'll find Rue de Paris, a coffee shop with an art deco style interior and fine espresso that endeavours to further help us with our delusions of grandeur.  Some whisper amongst themselves that this establishment somewhat approaches the Parisian experience with its pricing as well as its charming surrounds, but we won't speak of such indelicate things here.

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

ps: A little 'thank you for your support' launch special for my lovely blog readers:  If you order one of my originals at my Etsy store by Friday 9th Oct and mention 'Brazen Hussy' in the order notes, I'll give you 15% off via a refund back to your credit card.  And if you're a regular commenter, I'll add in a couple of Shell Sherree gift cards with my compliments, as an extra Thank You!  Any questions/suggestions/requests, don't hesitate to email me.  Ta!

  1. Does the real coffe shop have as much charm as your painting?

    A miniature ET? How cool is that? I think Brisbane should be called little Paris. ;-)

  2. Cali ~ charm is included with your menu selection automatically. :) And I infinitely prefer your idea of Brisbane as Le Petit Paris, rather than its common nickname of BrisVegas {euw}, though it's unfortunately apt until we have some rain to settle this dust...

  5. Aww, thank you, Cafe!! {After cleaning red dust out of just some of my nooks and crannies for six hours yesterday, I felt far from a work of art. :) }

    Marylène ~ definitely now is not the time to visit {see my reply to Cafe}. We look every bit 'the sunburnt country' at the moment. But a good spot of rain will sort that out. Hopefully only a week or so away!

    Thanks, Finie! {I think I'll nickname you, "my little lamb". ;) }

  6. Ah, but delusions of grandeur are priceless. I've very tempted by that discount, but trying to be sensible and think of my stash of artwork awaiting framing. Will sense prevail...?

  7. J'adore it! (I knew the scary dust cloud hit Sydney, but didn't realize it had made it up to Brisbane. As we're saying about our own selves here in Calif, what next, locusts?)

    Eiffel Tower? Did someone say Eiffel Tower?

    Wonderful illustration, Shell. I always love your designs.

  10. Mise ~ ah yes, "look after the sense and the dollars will take care of themselves..." :)

    Hiker ~ the locusts occurred to us, too, though I was hoping the dust would disorientate them.

    Margaret ~ Thanks for that link ~ they are seriously cool!

    Thanks, ET Suzy ~ hee hee!! Sorry to tease you... maybe next Francophile Friday. ;)

  11. I wonder if all my pining for Paris is bad for me. Every day I check Paris blogs and websites. I haven't been there in 3 years and I feel wistful for Paris all the time. A couple of days ago my husband said, "I just had this great nostalgia for Paris wash over me," and I said, "Don't you always have that?" and he looked at me like I was crazy.

  12. Shell, how charming! One day, when I make it to your corner of the world (it WILL happen), can we please meet under the Eiffel Tower?

  13. Petrea ~ I hope you make it to Paris again soon... you have many kindred spirits pining alongside you. {Small comfort, I know.}

    PCN ~ You WILL make it to my corner and it's a date! {Don't look up as you're crossing the road...}

  16. I really thought I'd left a comment here before I went to my Internet-less mom's house for the weekend! This charming painting just makes me want to come and visit this cute place in Brisbane. (I'm also suffering along with Petrea of a bad case of missing Paris and longing to be there).
    Coincidentally, right now I'm watching an American cable show called House Hunters International, and this episode was about someone looking for a place in Brisbane. She ultimately chose a place in Kedron—anywhere near you?

  17. Alexa, somewhere out in the ethers, my lost comments are having a partay with your lost comments. :) When you visit me someday, there's also a gorgeous Italian cafe, right under the Eiffel Tower {don't know why they didn't swap}, so we can alternate between pretending we're in Venice and Paris.

    Kedron is just on the north side of the city, and we are far west of the city - it's about 30 mins drive from us without traffic. Quite convenient to the city. Nice choice, but it's hard to go wrong here. :)

  18. Alexa and Shell (since I'm subscribed to this post and eavesdropping), don't a lot of us pine for a gander at Australia, too? Wouldn't it be a hoot to converge on Brisbane and meet at the Italian cafe under the Eiffel Tower?

    Chatting with my international friends has me dreaming of world travel every day. My French friends, my Australian friends, my New York friends, my pals in Turkey...

    It keeps me feeling positive about the world and saving my pennies.

  19. Petrea ~ that's right up there with a hot air balloon over Paris and our Hugh Jackman gondola party as a dream come true! And you've hit the nail on the head as always. How lovely this funny blogworld is...

  20. Fantastique! Looks like a marvelous place to meet up with friends when in a Parisian mood. I'm constantly amazed at how your art can so easily evoke such a powerful desire to be somewhere!
