Ballooning on Bastille Day

What better way could there be for us to celebrate the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille and uprising of the modern nation than with a frivolous hot air balloon ride over Paris, away from the commoners in the streets. {Mais oui, I made a little joke.}

We should be sufficiently elevated to avoid spooking any of these beautiful horsies. Depending on the formal festivities, we may have to dodge the planes of the Patrouille de France - French Acrobatic Patrol - but I think we'll be safe enough if we keep aloft in the immediate vicinity of the Eiffel Tower. To err on the side of caution, we shall travel light and just take the necessities on board: champagne and pastries for everyone!

  1. I first read that as champagne and pasties for everyone! ;)
    The link to the horsies was cool. Ah, to be in Paris on le 14 juillet and in a balloon no less! I have a sinking feeling the puzzled person left behind might possibly be me! LOL.
    Another lovely drawing, Shell.

  2. Cali ~ But of course you are there, in purple on the far left! And not exempt from the pastries OR pasties, LOL! That's a puzzled bird on the ET, wondering what a basketful of tipsy, giggling women is doing headed towards him.

  3. Shiver me timbers, but that is a bird and not the type of bird I thought! Yes, I see me now, in purple. I think I may have had too much champagne when first viewing this drawing! You think that bird is puzzled, wait until the basketful of tipsy, giggling women lands near those horsies and the dashing cavalry men.

  4. Shell, I'm buying my ticket for that balloon ride as I type this! May I bring some dark chocolate, too?

  5. Cali ~ I don't think anything could prepare them for us. ;)

    PCN ~ But of course ~ what's a little dark chocolate between friends! Put your purse away, though, this ride's on me.

  6. I forgot it was Bastille Day. Now I'll have to go bake something French to celebrate. Also thinking about re-reading A Tale of Two Cities so that I can channel Madame Defarge and run around with my knitting needles.

  7. Margaret ~ baking and knitting needles sounds like a dangerous liaison. ;)

  8. Oh my—the ET! ET! ET! and a fun balloon ride, and here I am a day late (darn this job that keeps me so busy all day and into the night, even on Bastille Day).
    Please tell me that I'm in the balloon with you, and that we didn't tipsily land on the dashing cavalry officers on their beautiful horses!

  10. Alexa ~ Where else would you be but in the balloon with the rest of us? {Sending a few last minute edits from your wireless laptop, but there.} And happily, no cavalry officers or horsies were injured in the making of this illustration. ;)

    ET Suzy ~ Hooray - I'm glad you made it along for this ride!

  12. Sorry, I am late but may I ?.....
    I'll bring something from Ladurée, I just walked by their store, rue Bonaparte, a week ago, but, because of my never-ending diet, I didn't dare to get inside. But, for a balloon ride, I am ready to break my rules !

  13. Marylène ~ it's never too late to hop on board this one! You are more than welcome even without treats from Ladurée, but if you insist ... :)
