Reflections of Venice

As Alexa is rather fond of Venice, and a goodly number of us share her sentiments, here's another watercolour from my archives.

There was enough light here to cast some pretty reflections of the buildings into the canal. {We'll forget that I wanted to cast my companion at the time into the water for a closer inspection.}

Everyone together: Ahhhhhh, Venezia!

  1. I did "ahhhhh" when I saw it; I did, I did!!

I bet Jeff and Craig would like that. They were there just before they hit Paris.

  2. I "aaaahed" too—and when I'm there I say it a dozen times a day at least. Thanks, Shell! This is a beautiful drawing of one of my fave things about Venice. I wish I could capture it the way you do (truth be told, chicken to try). You're very talented, something I admire very much (I have a print over my desk with a quote from Galina Galikova: "Once upon a time near the village of Bak-Dor there lived a man. He was long, beautiful, voracious, smart, cool, legitimate. But best of all, he was talented.")

  3. Margaret ~ Beautifully said!

ET Suzy ~ I'm glad I elicited an 'Ahhh' even though there's no ET in sight. :) I'll bet Jeff and Craig were chivalrous in seeing young ladies safely onto awaiting gondolas when they were there.

Alexa ~ {Awwwww. Thank you! And do give it a go ... you won't know until you do.} That's a gorgeous quote. I can't do much about the 'long' but the others, I can aspire to.

  4. Shell, I can barely draw stick figures and color within the lines so your artwork is most impressive. I'm Venice-sick! (As opposed to homesick.)

This drawing brings back fond memories. My husband and I didn't want to pay extra for a musician to serenade us but there was one standing around who was bored. He jumped into our gondola at the last minute and serenaded us for free with his accordion and renditions of "O Sole Mio" and "Besa Me Mucho" as we floated through the canals.

  5. I love this watercolour even more because, according to me, you chose to paint the real city, traditional house instead of palazzio and an utilitarian boat instead of a gondola.

  6. PCN ~ Oh, how romantic! What a kind man to take heart on a young couple in love!

Marylène ~ Yes, in Venice, even 'the suburbs' are magical.

  7. Lovely indeed, Shell.

Besame Mucho in Venice? It seems to be well known everywhere but here in the US!

  8. Shell Sherree I am embarrassed to admit that this is my first visit to your blog - I LOVE it - even though I have "known" you for quite a while now, when we meet up in Paris.
I will for sure visit you regularly from now on.

  9. from cali -- there's a guy who plays guitar and sings at my subway stop, and I swear Besame Mucho is the only song he knows!

  10. Alexa: LOL! I am glad to hear this, strangely enough. It has been one of my favorites since I was 5 years old.

  11. from cali ~ Lovely indeed ... to have you back {though perhaps you'd rather still be in Paris!} How serendipitous that there's a Besame Mucho reference here for you.

Bettina ~ Welcome! I'm so happy to see you. Please don't be embarrassed ... there are only so many hours in the day. ;) I'm glad you like it here.

  12. Funny how that "ahhhhhh" escapes one lips before it is even suggested. This is lovely, Shell. Soft and lovely.
